The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Directorate of Athletics, Department of Physical Education, anticipates filling the TERM (full-time) position of Instructor of Physical Education (Cross Country), beginning on 21 August 2017 and terminating on 30 September 2018.  Subsequent re-appointments will be considered based upon an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs, and funding availability.  This position is in the excepted civil service.

The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an undergraduate institution that awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead in the United States Air Force and in service to our nation.  Faculty applications are invited from candidates who can contribute to this mission by interacting with cadets, both in and out of the classroom, as instructors and mentors.  The student body consists of approximately 4,000 men and women representing every state and several foreign countries.  The Academy faculty is an integrated group of military and civilian educators.  The curriculum includes core academic and professional courses, and 27 disciplinary and interdisciplinary majors.

Help

Responsibilities will include serving as a staff member in the Physical Education Department and performing faculty duties.  The incumbent will effectively instruct undergraduate courses in Physical Education, manage and instruct competitive athletic programs, perform departmental duties, promote professional activities in area of athletic specialization (Cross Country); and participate in course and curriculum development.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The selected candidate will be subject to a security investigation leading to successful completion of a background investigation with a favorable adjudication.  The selectee's failure to meet this requirement will be grounds for termination.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  Bachelor's Degree (must be completed by application deadline)  and proficiency in the field of specialization (Cross Country).    

Desired Qualifications:   Successful candidates will be those that have knowledge of NCAA Division I guidelines for eligibility/recruiting, demonstrated experience in coaching, and college-level teaching experience in Physical Education and Coaching experience in Cross Country.

Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Education

You MUST provide original copies of ALL OFFICIAL transcripts for degree's being pursued or obtained (or letter of degree completion if an OFFICIAL transcript is not available due to recent graduation) to support your educational claims as stated in your curriculum vitae.  Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  Legible photocopies of OFFICIAL transcripts are acceptable for initial application submission.  However, if selected, you will be required to provide (original) copies of your OFFICIAL transcripts.  For a transcript to be considered OFFICIAL, it should be printed on university letterhead and the registrar's official seal/signature must appear on the transcript.  Your transcripts must also reflect the degree awarded/conferred date.  Transcripts labeled UNOFFICIAL will not be accepted.   

Note:  Ensure you include ALL transcripts to support your educational claims as stated on your vitae (resume) even if not required for this position.    

FOREIGN EDUCATION:

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the educational requirements.  However, you must show proof that the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying in the form of an "official" statement of U.S. equivalency from a Department of Education approved (non-federal) agency (i.e. AICE, NACES), who will complete a U.S. Standard of Education Conversion.
