Help

As a Logistics Management Specialist you will be responsible for the following:

  • Serves as the Logistics Assistance Representative on ammunition issues (wholesale to retail) for commanders of supported units/installations
  • Coordinate and support actions pertaining to the lifecycle logistics of ammunition. (e.g., plan, program, requisition, transport, track, store, secure, inventory, maintain, deploy, and destroy conventional ammunition).
  • Monitor storage facilities to ensure they meet standards for placement and proximity to personnel, are secured appropriately, and ammunition is stored with compatible materials.
  • Ensure the unit/installation maintains accountability for ammunition on the appropriate unit's/installation's property book.
  • Review and evaluate mission performance and compliance to established regulations/policies in assigned areas of responsibility in the execution of logistics operations.
  • Analyze ammunition logistics operations, capabilities, and requirements to assist unit/installations in the identification of systemic logistics issues and recommendations to improve ammunition operations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external staff elements in order to facilitate, resolve, and assist units in the resolution of identified ammunition logistics issues.

  • This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined in DoD 5200.2-R, and requires you to possess, or obtain and maintain for the duration of employment, a Secret security clearance.
  • This position may require business travel up to 50% of the duty time.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Critical Under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) and must pass urinalysis testing, as required, prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968, which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of Defense are not exempt from this provision.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid passport and be medically qualified to deploy to austere locations at the direction of the HQs, Joint Munitions Command, Material Management Operations Directorate's Chief Logistics Assistance Division (AMSJM-MML).
  • The employee must meet physical and functional requirements before employment and on an annual basis thereafter.
  • This position may require the incumbent to wear protective clothing and a uniform required for wear by DA Civilians specific to the areas of operation.
  • This position may require deployment to and retention in hostile zones during crisis situations or mobilizations. This may require flying in military aircraft.
  • This position requires the incumbent to support field exercises and deployments. This may require the incumbent to live and operate in field conditions similar to those of supported military personnel
  • Position requires a valid stateside driver's license to obtain a military or international driver's license.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as Applying knowledge of all aspects of military logistics including extensive training in logistics management techniques and systems; applying a thorough knowledge of organizational relationships to provide direction, assistance, and support for all operations, activities, and projects and to interface with higher-level entities; oral and written communications skills sufficient to: develop policies, directives, and procedures; to prepare correspondence addressing complex and controversial issues; to prepare and present briefings for various levels of management; and to document and present studies; and applying knowledge of laws, policies, precedents and directives applicable to logistics systems and resource requirements to independently analyze and resolve difficult logistics issues/problems in assigned area of responsibility. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11.
  • LAP positions cannot be filled by Reserve Component members who are subject to recall to active duty. Individuals occupying this position are required to report their military recall status to effect removal from the Ready Reserve or exemption from the retiree call-up (DoDD 1200.7, DoDD 1400.31, DoDD 1404310, AR 690-11, and paragraph 2.4 of AMC-R 700-19).
  • When leaving positions in CONUS to accept an overseas assignment, reemployment rights will be in accordance with Public Law 86-585 (10 USC 1586) as set for in 5 CFR 352.8. These rights provide for the employees to return to the activity from which the overseas assignment was accepted, and every effort will be made by management to retain employees at that location. However, it is often not possible. When this occurs, management will notify affected OCONUS employees as far in advance as possible.
