About the Position:
This position is with the United States Army Test & Evaluation Command, Resource Management Directorate, Manpower Division, located at Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona. Yuma Proving Ground (YPG) is located near the Arizona-California-Mexico border, adjacent to the Colorado River, approximately 15 miles north of the outskirts of the city of Yuma (pop 87,000), Arizona. Yuma is a 2.5 hour drive from San Diego, CA and Phoenix, AZ along Interstate Highway 8 and a 5-6 hour drive from Las Vegas, NV. Situated in the far-southwest corner of the state, the proving ground is in the heart of the great Sonoran desert where the US Army tests medium and long range artillery, aircraft target acquisition equipment and armament, armored and wheeled vehicles, and a variety of munitions, and personnel and supply parachute systems to ensure that America's ground forces have the equipment necessary to win our nation's battles. With a land mass of approximately 1300 square miles, YPG proudly holds the distinction of being one of the largest military installations in the world.

Help

Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional measurements applicable to the secondary transfer level calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). The purpose is to provide measurement traceability through an Army Area Calibration Laboratory, the Army Primary Standards Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology to the International System of Units, and provide information on TMDE accuracy and uncertainty. Performs repairs incidental to calibration as required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Screen Out Element:

Ability to do the job of a Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator, WG-3378-11. Ability to perform the common Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator tasks including: applies troubleshooting procedures and practices to repair test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Use of calibration standards and automated workstations to calibrate test instruments such as multi-meters, signal generators, and oscilloscopes under the close supervision of a work leader or journey level Precision Measurement Calibrator who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical effort:

The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending. Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.

Working conditions:

The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.

  • This position is considered emergency essential to support the Army's mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization. It is considered emergency essential because (1) no qualified and immediate replacement exists and (2) having the position vacant would (a) impair the effective operation of essential military support systems or (b) adversely impact the combat or peacekeeping mission of deployed forces. Failure of the incumbent to remain in this position may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal Service (Chapter 75, Title 5, USC; FPM Ch. 752. In addition, DA civilians who occupy emergency essential positions overseas must sign a statement of understanding including that as a requirement of the position, they will remain in the event of hostilities or mobilization until relieved by proper authority. Employees may be required to undergo nuclear-biological and chemical training and to participate in readiness tests, mobilization, alerts, and field training exercises. Employee must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployed location.
