Summary

About the Position:
This position is located in the Arlington, VA, headquarters office of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR). The incumbent is part of the Audits and Inspections Directorate (A&I) and reports to the Assistant Inspector General for Audits and Inspections (AIG-A&I).  The incumbent serves as the primary editor/publications specialist for A&I. In this capacity, the incumbent edits/proofreads and formats various A&I products, primarily audit and inspection reports and letters, to ensure that they align with A&I templates and the SIGAR Style Guide, thus ensuring these products meet SIGAR standards. The incumbent may also support other SIGAR directorates and offices as approved by the AIG-A&I. Travel to Afghanistan may be required.

Duties

Help

  • Review, edit and format products, such as audit and inspection reports and letters, to ensure they are consistent with established A&I templates and the SIGAR Style Guide and consistent across all products.
  • Improve the visual appeal of the reports by working with SIGAR's Visual Information Specialists to develop tables, charts, figures, and photos for use in the products issued by A&I.
  • Manage the distribution of products issued by the directorate to include notification letters, drafts for agency comments, and final reports for embargo to the audited agencies and public issuance.
  • Manage A&I's electronic mailbox to ensure easy archiving and retrieval of communications with the audit agencies and other external parties.
  • Edit reports and other written products for U.S. government agencies, Congress, and other public audiences.
  • Managing multiple tasks to achieve stated goals and requirements in identified timeframes.

  • Incumbent may be required to submit an Executive Branch Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
  • Incumbent must complete a Form SF 312, Classified Information Nondisclosure Agreement.
  • Incumbent must be eligible for and be able to maintain a Secret clearance.
  • This position may require travel to Afghanistan. In support of this travel, the incumbent will be required to meet minimum standards of fitness for deployment to the U.S. Central Command region to include the ability to wear personal protective equipment, including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor, and chemical/biological protective garments.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: editing/proofreading and formatting various reports, using automated formatting tools/graphic design applications, and developing tables/charts/graphs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Edit Formatting Products
  • Skill in Creating Tables/Charts/Graphs
  • Ability to Communicate Orally and in Writing

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-07 grade (or equivalent).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.  For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
