The area of consideration for this vacancy announcement is for U.S. Citizens and Non-Citizens within the Local Commuting Area of Fort Drum, NY. This includes the counties of: Saint Lawrence, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis. This position is located within Community Recreation Division.

Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division (LI), is located in northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering many outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles south of the Canadian border, 85 miles north of Syracuse, and 350 miles north of New York City. It is located with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Duties

Help

  • Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions.
  • Directs the operation of the pool and the work of assigned lifeguards.
  • Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it's filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guest in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility, rescuing swimmers & administering first aid, and ensuring that safety rules are followed.
  • Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21 and attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed.

Conditions of Employment:

Willing to obtain a current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associate Lifeguard Instructor Certification; OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard Water Safety Instructor Certification within 6 months of employment.
  3. Willing to work irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
  4. Willing to work hours that may involve weekend, weekdays, holidays and night duty? (Day Shift: 5:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. OR Night Shift: 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
  5. In case of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  6. Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will possess all of the following:

  1. an American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification, and
  2. an American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates (CPR) Certification.
Certifications MUST be uploaded at the time of application to support this minimum qualification.
