OIG is organized into three line elements: the Offices of Investigations, Audits and Evaluations, and Healthcare Inspections; along with the Office of Contract Review and the Office of Management and Administration. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 30 cities throughout the country.

The SUPERVISORY HEALTH SYSTEMS SPECIALIST, located in the Office of Inspector General (Office of Healthcare Inspections), is responsible for establishing and managing a nationwide program of quality assurance and patient care inspection and oversight activities covering the broad scope of Veterans Health Administration quality assurance and patient care activities at the Headquarters level, the Veterans Health Administration regions, and more than 300 Veterans Health Administration healthcare facilities.

This position will be filled in one of the following locations: Arlington, VA, Atlanta, GA, Baltimore, MD, Bay Pines, FL, Bedford, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA, Seattle, WA or Washington DC.

  • First line supervisor of OHI National Reviews staff.
  • Comfortably and capably conducing reviews and functioning well in an unstructured environment.
  • Performing integrated analysis of data in order to provide recommendations of program process improvement.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Providing leadership and direction to multiple healthcare inspection teams to ensure support for inspections that evaluate quality improvement and patient care issues; AND
  • Performing in-depth reviews and evaluations of quality improvement processes and patient care issues in a healthcare environment and in conformance with regulations; AND
  • Leading inspection teams, which includes planning and coordinating the review work, performing data validation, and writing and editing draft and final reports while meeting set deadlines.

  • Special Provision for In-service Placement:
    Successful completion of an agency-sponsored on-the-job training program may be substituted for qualifying experience, provided it included a formal individualized training plan. Such a training program must have been conducted in an operating health care system and included:
    • Assignments providing a knowledge of basic health system administration philosophies, practices, and procedures, and basic Government administrative policies and requirements;
    • Practical assignments providing an opportunity to apply a broad range of quality assurance and health care program inspections and evaluation skills. (as the individual progresses, work assignments must be characteristic of the grade level to which he or she is assigned); and
    • Oversight by an experienced health system administrator with periodic evaluation of the individual's progress and appropriate adjustment of the training program.

- A one year probationary period may be required.
