About the Position:  Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York's picturesque North Country, one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.

Help

This position is located in the Maintenance Division, Logistics Readiness Center, Fort Drum NY.  In this position you will interface with customers, register work order requests, validate customer accounts, identify equipment, and maintain work order requests for a variety of equipment to be repaired by the maintenance shops. You will maintain files, customer account data, regulations, and records to reflect the current status of equipment. You will receive and process parts requests from repair shops and receive, store, and issue repair parts and materials. You will also monitor shop stock quantities and maintain storage locations and records.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as providing supply support work involving the requisitioning, receiving, storing, issuing, accountability and turn in or disposal of supply and equipment items. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position the Federal service (GS-04).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, and abilities) in the following areas: 

  • Knowledge of Supply Regulations and/or Procedures
  •  Knowledge of Logistics Supply Management
  • Skill in the Use of Automated Logistics Management Systems

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definition below:

 

Education substitution for the GS-05:  Successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts to verify your education.)

 

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute for experience.
