Help

  • Research applicable laws, directives and other regulatory material to gain audit knowledge.
  • Develop and contribute to audit guides.
  • Independently perform audit work within established guidelines.
  • Produce comprehensive reports of audit data collected.

Other Position Requirements

Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with Department of Defense (DoD) OIG. Organizational entities with the DoD are not required to conduct drug testing for DoD civilian employees moving by transfer or reassignment from one DoD Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another TDP with no break in service within the DoD, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis by the gaining Component.

May require up to 25% of temporary duty travel (TDY).

Permanent Change of Duty (PCS—Relocation) expenses WILL be paid.

Recruitment incentives WILL not be authorized.

If you have not previously successfully completed a probationary period with the federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

The incumbent must adhere to the DoD Standards of Conduct.

Qualifications

You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp  (http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/group-stds/gs-prof.asp).


Basic Requirement:  A degree in accounting or in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing.  (The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law). 

OR

A qualifying combination of education and experience: 4 years of accounting experience or a combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses or a certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor.

Note:  Due to the education requirement of this position, an unofficial or official transcript must be submitted at the time of application.  If transcripts are not received, you will be ineligible.

Specialized Experience:  You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-11 or equivalent level.  Specialized experience is defined as experience that demonstrates skill in researching applicable laws, directives, and other regulatory material to conduct audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standardds (GAGAS), drafting audit reports within established guidelines, and providing recommendations to correct deficiencies founded within audit reports. 

Candidates will be further evaluated on the level and quality of their experience and possession of the following relevant competencies in order to determine the level of your qualifications.  These competencies include:

   1.  Knowledge of theories, concepts and practices of accounting and auditing.

   2.  Skill in utilizing auditing principles, standards and practices to provide overall audit oversight.

   3.  Ability to determine facts, draw conclusions and recommend corrective actions when conducting audits.

   4.  Skill in initiating, developing, maintaining and using interpersonal relationships to interact effectively with internal and external customers.

   5.  Skill in written communication.

   6.  Skill in oral communication.

Qualified:  This lowest category will be used for those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications of the position and are proficient in some, but not all, of the requirements of the position.  Candidates may require extensive training and/or orientation in order to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position.
