This position is located at the VA Black Hills Health Care System (BHHCS), Fort Meade campus. Incumbent is the Program Assistant for the Hospice and Palliative Care Program (HPC) within the Extended Care and Rehab Service Line. The incumbent establishes, analyzes, maintains, and updates database information requiring extensive skills in mining information as well as specialized skills in presenting data. He/she solves complicated problems based on knowledge of the Hospice and Palliative Care Program to include the following: initial contact for customers by phone or in person, triages all calls for urgency and/or assimilates all information necessary for staff. Incumbent plans and accomplishes routine clerical, typing copying, filing and electronic record maintenance. He/she will serve as primary purchase agent for the Palliative and Hospice fund control point and back-up for the EC&R control point.

Physical Requirements:

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience includes experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position and which is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: maintain budgets; develop, establish and maintain office procedures; receives telephone calls and greet customers; provides information for non-technical requests; receives and processes incoming/ outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations and directives; coordinates and schedules meetings and conferences, use multiple automated software programs such as databases, spreadsheets and graphs to create memos, letters, graphs and charts for presentations, and to retrieve and summarize data to process various reports.
