The Hunter Holmes McGuire Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a Physician - Neuro-Radiologist-Diagnostic Imaging Service. Duties include reading routine and advanced neuro-imaging studies.
McGuire VA is a certified center of excellence for Epilepsy and Polytrauma/TBI, and major VA referral center for Parkinson Disease for the Southeastern United States. We work closely with neurosurgery in pre-operative planning for deep brain stimulator placement and tumor resection, utilizing MRI perfusion, DTI & tractography, and clinical functional MRI. Neuro-radiology fellowship training is required. Completion of CAQ is preferred however, CAQ-eligible candidates may be considered on an individual basis. Strong preference is given to candidates with demonstrable skills in these techniques. There are abundant research opportunities for TBI and mental health. Performs neuro-imaging invasive procedures (including, but not limited to, lumbar punctures, cervical, thoracic and lumbar myelograms), using the full technical capacity of MR, CT, US and fluoroscopy. Interventional neuroangiography capabilities are not required.
The department performs approximately 120,000 examinations per year and has 11 full and 6 part time faculty members. 6 VCU Radiology residents are present at the VAMC at all times. We currently have 3 MRIs (Siemens1.5T, GE 1.5, and GE 3 T) and 2 Toshiba CT scanners (64 and 320 slice). The CT section routinely performs CT perfusion, CTA neck/COW, CT temporal bones, CT IVPs, Coronary CTA's, Virtual colonoscopy, CT Enterography, CT perfusion and CT guided Liver / Renal Microwave and RF Ablations. In addition, the MR section is currently performing NeuroQuant, Cardiac MRI, Breast MRI, Multiparametric Prostate MRI, MR perfusion, Functional MRI and DTI. We also have a robust Vascular and Body Interventional Section. We are in the process of acquiring a fourth MRI system (3T) and a third CT scanner (Dual Energy). We also have ADW, Vitrea, TeraRecon and Dynacad workstations. Ultrasound equipment and PET-CT16 are also state-of-the art. VA Richmond provides a full-integrated electronic medical records system, fully digital Radiology Department, and active multidisciplinary collaboration with other departments.
