Summary

The NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducts audits, reviews, and investigations of NASA programs and operations to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement and to assist NASA management in promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. The OIG consists of approximately 200 auditors, analysts, specialists, investigators, attorneys, and support staff at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC, and NASA Centers throughout the U.S.

The Office of Investigations (OI) is seeking an experienced and motivated candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position at the Langley Research Center (LaRC). This office investigates allegations of crime, cyber-crime, fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct having impact on NASA programs, projects, operations, and resources. OI refers its findings either to the Department of Justice for prosecution or to NASA management for action. Through its investigations, OI identifies crime indicators and recommends effective measures for NASA management that are designed to reduce NASA's vulnerability to criminal activity.

Duties

Help

Provides administrative support to the staff to include time and attendance, travel, conference planning, and records/file management. Facilitates mailing/shipping of investigative information and equipment.

Serves as the primary evidence custodian for preparing inventories of seized or evidentiary items pursuant to Grand Jury subpoenas and the execution of search warrants. Serves as the primary custodian for confidential funds used for authorized law enforcement activities. Handles investigative information and materials in a discretionary manner.

Works with office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing and graphic presentation software. Sends emails and uses the Web for research and employer-specific applications. Assists with typing and formatting his supervisor’s presentations, reports, manuals, newsletters, website content and other administrative publications.

Serves as the vehicle coordinator for assigned GSA vehicles. Issues related monthly reports and correspondence, and tracks inspection and registration requirements.

Serves as the Security POC for LaRC OIG (i.e. Alarm systems; STE KSV-21 phone; safes, work with Headquarters and LaRC Security).

Orders supplies and equipment; prepares monthly purchase card reports in order to make sure all orders are correct. Manages purchase card accounts, transaction history and budget information.

Coordinates and acts as liaison between the OIG and Center to obtain, track and facilitate replacement of Information Technology equipment to include computers, printers and mobile devices.

Qualifications

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Examples of specialized experience at the GS-7 level may include providing administrative support services to enable efficient operation of a business or program office; and the ability to use automated systems to maintain records, property accountability and monitor investigative activities.

Examples of specialized experience at the GS-8 level may include maintaining records and accountability of property; proven skill in researching and compiling investigative information; and the ability to use office applications and researches information utilizing computerized information systems and analyzes data to determine patterns or trends specific to investigative leads.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the Federal Service. Time-in-grade and all qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

A human resources specialist will validate the qualifications of those candidates eligible to be referred to the selecting official. In certain instances when a large candidate pool exists within the highest quality category, additional weighting of scores may occur to further distinguish best qualified candidates.
