Office of External Affairs
The Office of External Affairs is the public affairs, communications, and Congressional and inter-agency liaison arm of OPIC, the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. The office manages all aspects of external outreach to various audiences. OEA issues news releases; publishes all of the agencies printed materials such as program brochures, newsletters and annual reports; manages OPIC’s web and social media properties; arranges investment and trade related events such as seminars, conferences, and workshops; and makes presentations and/or arranges for OPIC officers to speak at various events. OEA also acts as the agency's liaison with members of Congress and their staff (both here in Washington DC and in Congressional Districts of interest) as well as other federal and state government agencies and non-governmental organizations. OPIC’s in-house Information Center is also a part of the Office of External Affairs.

Duties

Help

Under the guidance of an External Affairs Officer, the intern will assist in protocol events for ranking foreign and U.S. dignitaries, and support OPIC's public affairs activities through research projects. Other duties include: assist in writing OPIC promotional materials, web content and case studies; providing information about OPIC programs to the public. May also assist in legislative activities of interest to the corporation.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required, Power Point preferred. Experience with social media a plus. Good oral and written communication skills are also required.
Interns must demonstrate a high degree of initiative, and be able to work independently as well as with a team, and be able to complete each project assigned.

Qualifications

All students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student in the following areas of study; Government, Political Science, International Affairs, Communication/Marketing, Legislative Affairs or an MBA candidate with the same areas of academic study.
