SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: FOR GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service or equivalent in other pay systems that includes knowledge of basic principles, concepts, and methodology used in Materials Engineering OR
have one year of graduate level education OR
superior academic achievement SAA OR
have a combination of education and specialized experience.
FOR GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service or equivalent in other pay systems that includes professional knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology used in Materials Engineering, and ability to gather and analyze basic facts and draw conclusions, OR
have a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree which provides you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position OR
have a combination of education and specialized experience.
FOR GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, which includes professional knowledge of material engineering principles and concepts, and the ability to apply the full range of engineering practices, methods, and tecniques in the performance of a wide range of materials engineering assignments and knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques to develop, simulate and analyze data, OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. OR

FOR GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Applying experience in research projects to materials problems affecting the reliability of military components and electronic systems, to include operation and data collection/interpretation using sophisticated analytical electronic materials analysis equipment. Participating with project engineers during conceptual validation, full scale development and production in materials selection and/or evaluation to assure that the desired properties and costs are commensurate with the required functions. Reviewing drawings and specification to assure processes and procedures are adequate, accurate and will give the desired results.
FOR GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: Technical specialist to include application of knowledge and expertise from materials engineering disciplines including corrosion resistance, fatigue, metallurgical test data evaluation, review of drawings and specifications, design reviews, storage life evaluations, and process reviews. Identify where the application of specialized ordnance and missile technology could be introduced for maximum, long term impact on system performance. Expert advisor on integration of technical aspects of system and subsystem performance with other specialty, systems engineering, and quality program requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Professional knowledge of general engineering principals as required to support research.
2. Broad working knowledge and experience in electromagnetic modeling, analytical and experimental investigations in antennas, and microwave circuitry.
3. Ability to analyze, interpret and apply materials engineering rules and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior engineers.
4. Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications.
5. Skill in applying basic principles, concepts, and practices of the occupation sufficient to perform research and analyses assignment in Material Engineering.
