Help

In this position, you will serves as the primary communications advisor and strategist to the Regional Administrator for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Typical assignments include:

  • Providing expert, technical and managerial advice for the development of a comprehensive regional communications strategy in support of regional and agency wide-initiatives
  • Implementing policies, plans and projects relating to communication program activities
  • Coordinating internal communications and guidance to regional field offices regarding media
  • Leading and supervising all regional External Affairs outreach efforts relating to priorities for the Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery Division

You qualify for this position at the GS-15 level (starting salary $143,244) if you possess the following:

One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level that demonstrates the following: (1) Serve as a principal spokesperson for a large, complex organization; (2) Develop and manage multi-channel communications, including social media platforms; (3) Supervise and develop professional support staff; (4) Build and manage relationships with local, regional, and/or national media; and (5) Advise high-level officials on communication matters, especially relating to crises or high-profile controversial issues.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
