About the Position:

This is an excepted service appointment. If a current federal employee with career or career conditional status is hired for this position, the employee will be required to sign a memorandum of understanding prior to being converted to the excepted service.

Serves as the Director, Religious Education servicing USAG Bavaria, Grafenwoehr, Vilseck, Hohenfels and Garmisch Communities.

This is a developmental position.

Incumbent of the GS-09 position will be responsible for at least one specific faith group; incumbent of the GS-11 position will be responsible for a comprehensive program for two or more specific faith groups across the installation.


About the Location:

This position is located in Grafenwoehr, Germany, in the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) and in the State of Bavaria (Bayern). The US Army Garrison Bavaria is located in a scenic, rural section approximately 60 miles from Nuernberg. The city of Grafenwoehr lies right outside the gates of the training area and owes much of its prosperity to the soldiers training there. Our communities are truly communities of excellence. Help

You will serve as Director, Religious Education at the USAG Bavaria; ensure that Soldiers, reservists, authorized civilians, and Family members are afforded religious education programs, which allow them to exercise their religious beliefs regardless of faith group; advise Garrison Chaplain on multiple faith groups for installation; provide guidance in matters of religious education; review and evaluate religious education and youth ministry needs and programs; develop curriculum, theological instruction, teacher training and volunteer requirements; assess resource needs and deficits in order to meet the needs of religious education program across the installation; provide marketing and advertising for emphasis on religious education and youth ministry; act as a liaison between congregations in planning community wide programs; assure religious education and youth ministry volunteer packets are current and accurate; and coordinate annual installation-level training conference for religious education and youth ministry personnel.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.


    Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications (See AR 165-1)

    GS-09:

    A  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major or minor in religious education (or spiritual formation).  OR

    A minimum of 18 documented credit hours in the same and  a minimum of 3 years of documented professional experience leading a religion-based education program. Additional years of documented religion-based education program leadership may be substituted for up to six credits of the academic requirement (at a rate of 1 year of documented professional religious education experience for one religious education academic credit).  You must submit transcripts with your application package.

    GS-11:
     
    A Master's of Religious Education degree or its equivalent from an accredited graduate school, and a minimum of 5 years documented professional experience leading a religious education program.  You must submit transcripts with your application package.      OR
    A  Master's Degree in any discipline other than religious education which includes a minimum of 24 documented credits in religious education theory and practice or spiritual formation and a minimum of 5 years of documented professional religious education experience.  You must submit transcripts with your application package 

    You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

    • Religious Education Program Management and Advice
    • Religious Education Program Planning and Directing
    • Religious Education Program Operations and Training

    Education

    Foreign Education: Education that has been completed in a foreign college or university may be used to meet the job requirements. Such education must be declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution. Please include this information in your resume.

    • In the overseas areas, access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only. Medical care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location. Movement overseas may require you to initiate a change in your health benefits plan to ensure coverage.
    • Pay retention may be offered to successful applicants for positions at overseas locations. For this provision to apply to employees already overseas, the selected individual would have to require a permanent change of station move and would have to be selected as a result of a recruitment effort that had been extended outside of the overseas command involved.
