- Performs a variety of basic up to intermediate skilled industrial facility and equipment maintenance duties associated with dams, hydroelectric power plants, and related facilities.
- Performs facility and equipment maintenance duties in a variety of trades, such as masonry, concrete, carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
- Performs work independently, as a member of a work team, and/or by assisting journeyman craftsmen in electrical and mechanical maintenance duties.
- Examples of work include, builds concrete forms, places and patches minor concrete installations, and places or replaces filler in expansion joints; performs minor plumbing and sewer repairs and cleans calcium and other deposits from drains and other surfaces; paints structures and equipment; strings lights in work areas and replaces burned out lamps; and assists in the assembly and disassembly of machinery and equipment and cleans parts and surfaces.
- Operates and uses a variety of light equipment and common hand, power, and pneumatic tools, such as farm tractors, motor boats, forklifts, motorized man-lifts, snow plows and blowers, light trucks, impact wrenches, jack hammers, table saws, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is accomplished in and around dams, powerplants, and related facilities with exposure to high levels of noise, moving parts, hazardous materials, and electrical hazards. Work is also performed outside under prevailing weather and terrain conditions. Some work assignments are performed in confined spaces, closed and restricted quarters, and at substantial heights.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort which includes lifting and carrying items weighting up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 100 pounds. Climbing ladders and stairs, walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, or bending for long periods of time may be required in performing maintenance duties. Maintenance duties may also involve working from suspended scaffolding and motorized man-lifts at substantial heights and working in closed restricted quarters and confined spaces.
