As the Assistant Inspector General of Investigations, Attorney Advisor, you will be responsible for using a demonstrated understanding of or familiarity with the workings of the Department of Veterans Affairs to:
· Provide leadership to subordinate managers and supervisors insuring the successful accomplishment of the mission and goals assigned to this office by the Inspector General.
· Engage in important legal policy making determinations that significantly affect Office of Investigation operations, consulting with the VA Office of General Counsel as well as VA Offices of Regional Counsel where necessary.
· Refer alleged or suspected criminal violations to elements of the Department of Justice.
· Maintain continuing liaison and communication with Department of Justice on all criminal matters referred to that agency by components of the Office of Inspector General.
· Provide expert legal advice and guidance consistent with applicable law and the interpretations there of by VA’s General Counsel, on issues relating to the conduct of OIG criminal and administrative investigations, and other initiatives designed to prevent or detect inefficiency, waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in VA programs and operations.
Current career Senior Executives, QRB-certified graduates of SES candidate development programs, and individuals with SES reinstatement eligibility are not required to address the executive core qualifications. They are required to address the technical qualifications. All other applicants are required to address both the executive core qualifications and the technical qualifications.
Demonstrated experience leading, directing and monitoring a comprehensive Federal criminal or administrative investigative program involving broad and complex issues of fraud, waste, abuse, or misconduct by senior officials through a large geographically dispersed professional workforce.
Demonstrated experience leading a program that develops, implements, and ensures compliance with investigative policy and procedures.
Education Requirements: Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and bar membership.
