Major Duties and Responsibilities (MDRs)

  • Oversee and lead professional staff serving as communications consultants to senior leadership at the Office of the Director National Intelligence (ODNI) and ensure that staff provides leaders and components with substantive advice and counsel on the development of internal communications, strategic communications, and/or media relations.
  • Lead staff in planning, developing, and executing a comprehensive ODNI strategic communications plan for assigned areas of responsibility that effectively communicates the ODNI?s mission, vision, and goals to stakeholders; plan should include, but not be limited to, goals and objectives, situational analysis, key messages, target audiences, and planned communications events, programs, and activities.
  • Lead staff in initiating, cultivating, and maintaining productive working relationships with staff in other communications organizations in the Intelligence Community (IC), and, as appropriate, members of the media, community leaders, policy groups, and/or concerned constituencies to provide information about ODNI mission, programs, and activities.
  • Lead staff in the planning, development, and dissemination of information to stakeholders using a full range of media and communication methods; based on assignment, methods may include Town Halls, roundtables, ODNI senior principal speeches and Congressional testimony, workforce memorandums, ODNI brochures and publications, press releases, questions and answers (Q&A) and frequently asked questions (FAQs) documents, Internet and web 2.0 communications, and/or video presentations.
  • Lead staff in planning, developing, and producing informational materials concerning ODNI mission, programs, and activities for dissemination to stakeholders and in obtaining feedback on the effectiveness of these materials.
  • Lead a team of professional staff and assess performance, collaborate and oversee goal setting, and provide feedback on personal development.

  • Superior analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think strategically and to develop and produce complex public affairs information and materials.
  • Superior ability to manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail; superior ability to work effectively with ODNI?s senior leaders in a high profile and demanding office.

JOB INTERVIEW TRAVEL: Candidates from outside the Washington, D.C., area may be selected for a telephone, teleconference, or in-person interview. If selected for an in-person interview, the ODNI hiring office will pay for travel by commercial carrier (economy class) or reimburse for privately owned vehicle (POV) mileage. If applicable, the candidate also will be reimbursed at a flat rate for commercial lodging and per diem.
