The Office of the General Counsel, Office of Administration, Executive Office of the President, offers qualified and highly motivated law students the opportunity to work side by side with practicing lawyers in the EOP legal community. Law clerks work under the direct supervision of a practicing lawyer performing a wide variety of substantive legal assignments requiring superior legal analysis, research, and communication skills. The Office of the General Counsel's "small firm" environment provides law clerks with the opportunity to work closely with senior attorneys, gain practical legal experience, and network with other law students and graduate students in client offices. The clerkships are uncompensated.

Specifically, we seek one or two law students to assist in providing legal counsel to offices that serve the President of the United States. The practice of law at the EOP reflects the broad nature of the work of the Presidency; the Office of the General Counsel is a full-service corporate practice providing not only transactional, but regulatory and administrative legal services to the EOP. Summer 2017 law clerk positions are available within the Office of Administration with an anticipated start date of Monday, June 5, 2017 and an anticipated end date of Friday, August 4, 2017 . The students are expected to work at least 20-40 hours per week for the duration of the internship; we are willing to accommodate shorter terms or alternate schedules for extenuating circumstances.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an ABA-accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) program and must have completed one full year of graduate legal education. Applicants must have at least a cumulative (overall) 3.0 grade point average (GPA); and remain in good academic standing. When deciding which candidates are qualified for an interview, we look at the total application package including law school courses and GPA; law review or law journal participation; national or regional moot court competition participation; and other special qualifications (such as another advanced degree, foreign language skills, prior work experience related to government operations). Writing samples will be evaluated for legal research, analytical and writing skills (i.e., organization, grammar, spelling, and persuasiveness).
