Duties

Help

As an Assistant Special Agent in Charge, you will provide oversight in all matters pertaining to the detection, investigation and prosecution of suspected violators of fraud, abuse, and integrity laws within the Department and its programs. Typical work assignments include:

  • Directs and coordinates in-depth reviews and evaluations of criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.
  • Identifies program areas that require investigative action or administrative review..
  • Conducts and monitors interviews with suspects, witnesses and informants.
  • Oversees the service of arrest and search warrants; and grand jury and administrative subpoenas.
  • Establishes relationships and conducts liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepares, reviews, and revises policies, program standards, and techniques.
  • Provides guidance and advice to senior management concerning criminal, civil, and administrative investigations and program operations.
  • Provides supervision to special agents, administrative and clerical staff in the field office and its outlying offices.

Applicants must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a position within the OIG as a law enforcement officer. This requirement does not apply to preference-eligible veterans.
Selectee must satisfactorily complete the Basic Criminal Investigative Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, if an equivalent training course has not already been completed.
The selectee will be required to carry a firearm or ammunition [Title 18, U.S.C. Section 922 (g)].
Per the Lautenberg Amendment, any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Selectee must pass a pre-appointment physical examination and meet the physical requirements for this position as required by this agency. The duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints are required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision and hearing are required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Since the duties of this position are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard to himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

Completion of one year supervisory probationary period may be required.

To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a background investigation for a TOP SECRET CLEARANCE as a condition of placement into this position.

Qualifications

In addition to the requirements above you qualify for the GS-14 level if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level performing the duties such as: Identifies program areas that require investigative action, administrative review, or oversight attention; Coordinates with senior management in planning, conducting and reporting of a full range of criminal, civil, and administrative investigations, including those of an extremely sensitive and highly complex nature; Prepares and reviews reports; proposes, presents and revises policies, program standards, and techniques; Provides advice and guidance to senior management.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade band in the federal service. The time-in-grade requirement must be met by 03/07/2017of this announcement.
