this Human Resources Specialist (Classification) position you will become a key
team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in applying principles and practices of position
management and classification. Typical work assignments include:
Applying position classification standards to position descriptions;
Identifying and discussing position management and classification findings with senior specialists;
Preparing basic evaluation reports;
Identifying and recommending review of management requests for various actions.

PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION: The Recent Graduates program lasts for one year. After successful completion of the program, recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years).
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
Be a U.S. Citizen;
Successfully complete at least 1 year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the program;
Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted;
Meet agency-specific requirements and expectations as specified in the Participant's Agreement; and
Perform their job successfully
EXPECTED TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT:
Orientation program for Recent Graduates hired for the program.
Mentorship throughout the program.
Individual Development Plan to create and track Recent Graduates' career planning, professional development, and training activities.
At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the program.

Qualifications
GS-07: You qualify at the GS-07
level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level
or equivalent performing duties such as providing basic knowledge of position management
and classification standards; determining correct pay category, occupational
series, title and grade level; performing desk audits; and reviewing management
requests for various position management and classification actions.
Substitution of Education for Experience:
GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours.
OR
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required at this level. SAA is defined as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, having a class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. Combining Experience and Education:
To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify.
