About the Position:
Serves as an Information Technology Specialist (Network Services) at Network Enterprise Command at Fort Leavenworth, KS. The work involves installing, maintaining, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting various networks, systems, and applications. The incumbent's work contributes substantively to ensuring C2 networks are able to provide the classified, unclassified, and simulations organizational services that are vital to the accomplishment of DOD and other users' mission requirements.

  • Moving expense allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the JTR and an agency determination that a move is in the Government's interest.

Help

As an Information Technology Specialist (Network Services) you will perform the following duties:

  • Plan, design, install, maintain, troubleshoot, resolve problem and manage network asset of the CISCO and BROCADE backbone for Campus Area Networks (CANs)
  • Install and configure the associated equipment which makes up the CANs, to include troubleshooting, problem resolution, maintaining current versions of operating systems and reviewing vendor documentations to determine impact of new operating systems for CAN equipment
  • Ensure Information Assurance compliance with information systems security monitoring notification procedures
  • Serve as the Telecommunications Coordination Officer (TCO) for ordering, disconnecting and coordinating the installation of dedicated long-haul circuits
  • Respond to peak loading or emergencies by configuring and optimizing network hubs, routers, and switches to reroute traffic.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
  • You will be subject to applicant and random drug testing for the duration of the appointment and you will be is required to sign a DA FORM 5019.
  • 10% Travel may be required to attend training, conferences, and other mission requirements.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain appropriate baseline Information Assurance (IA) Technical Certification and obtain and maintain Operating System (OS) certificates(s) for the supported operating system(s) and/or security related tools/devices within six months of entrance on duty.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) assisting in the installation of network systems to include local area networks (LANs) and/or campus area networks (CANs); (2) performing network configuration management functions; and (3) monitoring and troubleshooting system components such as routers, hubs, switches, and/or servers.

Information Technology Competencies required:

  1. Attention to Detail: I am thorough when providing oversight of information technology and conscientious about attending to detail in the application of IT information security policies and procedures.
  2. Customer Service: I work with clients and customers (e.g., senior management officials, information technology personnel, the general public) to assess technology needs of information security, providing technical information or assistance, resolving IT information security, or satisfying expectations; knowledgeable about innovations in information security and services; and committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication: I communicate, explain or defend highly technical information (i.e., ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; delivering technically authoritative and persuasive oral presentations; listening to others, attending to nonverbal cues, and responding appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving: I identify IT information security problems; determining accuracy and relevance of information; and using expert judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Skill in Administration and Management of Networks
  • Knowledge of Network Maintenance


 

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Successful completion of a PH.D or equivalent degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks from an accredited college or university.
