Duties

Help

  • As an action officer in the Office of the Chief Legislative Liaison, Senate Liaison Division (SLD) or House Liaison Division (HLD) you will provide factual, coordinated, and timely replies to inquiries from Members of Congress, Committees, and Staff.
  • Keep informed on matters of concern to the Army leadership via media, personal contacts, Army regulations, and conferences in order to reply effectively to telephonic and email inquiries and to discourage misinformation to Congress.
  • Prepare briefing documents for congressional engagements that will be used to brief Army leadership on the purpose of the engagement, relevant congressional objectives, and scope of the engagement.
  • Analyze requests to determine pertinent issues, extent of research required, and sources from which to obtain information and facts.
  • Provide advice and guidance on congressional processes, allowing the Hill Division (HLD or SLD) the advantage of understanding the historic significance of an issue and to make decisions or recommendations accordingly.
  • Work through appropriate travel authorizations and approvals, review congressional travel accounting workbooks, obtains required VISAs on behalf of the LLs, as well as provides support to the OCLL Travel Office as required for congressional travel support for the Hill Division (HLD or SLD).

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Experience required for the GS-11: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.

Specialized experience is defined as: assisting in providing administrative support to ensure tasks such as annual training is completed, parking permits are coordinated and congressional identification badges are secured; monitoring responses to inquiries to ensure they are organized, clear and concise; verifying facts for complex regulatory or program information to discourage misinformation to Congress; and recognizing inconsistencies in related regulations to recommend alternative solutions to the issue at hand.  

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). 

Experience required for the GS-12: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. 

Specialized experience is defined as: participating in discussions, meetings, and conferences to recommend solutions for the issue at hand; researching congressional processes to provide advice and guidance to the Hill Division; coordinating with congressional legislative liaisons in preparing, coordination and staffing of travel documents; and evaluating a variety of legislative reference and informational materials to identify items of importance as they pertain to agency programs and objectives.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

It provides leader training and education that supports civilian leaders' career path requirements and professional development, and promotes lifelong learning and self development as integral parts of the civilian leader development program. CES provides leader development opportunities for Army civilians.

The following course and time requirements apply to this position: The Foundation Course (FC) is required for all employees hired after 30 September 2006. The Basic Course (BC) must be completed within one year of placement into the position. The Intermediate Course (IC) must be completed within two years after placement into the position.
