Help

  • As a Writer-Editor you will be responsible for assisting in the production and release of public affairs communications products on a wide range of issues, producing and editing media advisories and news releases, responding to national and international media queries, and providing guidance to Army leaders and personnel on a broad spectrum of public affairs programs, Army missions and activities with high public visibility or interest.
  • Develop, write and edit short-term plans, media strategies and media events for assigned accounts/topics in support of overall Army objectives.
  • Advise and brief the Chief and Principal Deputy Chief of Public Affairs, other OCPA Divisions, and program specialists on the Army Staff and Secretariat on the public implications of regional, national, and international Army programs concerning assigned account areas.
  • Determine the adequacy of content and source materials used, as well as the amount and type of information required by the audience.
  • Undertake special studies, direct projects, and carry out assigned missions of the very highest priority, many of which are of direct concern to the Secretary of the Army.
  • Assess whether technical matters can be clearly understood and determine whether findings support the recommendations and the overall conclusions of the document.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. 

Note: In addition to meeting the specialized below, you will be required to provide a writing sample.

Specialized experience is defined as: assisting in the production and editing of media advisories and news releases; assisting in writing and editing Public Affairs themes and messages, such as press releases, speeches, talking points, brochures and articles; assessing written work for editorial quality, consistency and compliance with established style, format, content guidance, accuracy, readability, and appropriateness; and reviewing proposed articles and media releases for instructional value and potential interest and make initial decisions on what to accept or reject.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal services GS-12.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

Education
