About the Position:
Performs hydrologic studies of moderate scope and complexity and/or assists in the conduct of large and complex projects pertaining to hydrology of the Great Lakes Basin, including lake regulation, river flows, lake level forecasting, coastal studies, flood-plain management, special studies, and coordination of basic data with Canadian and local interests.

Use computer programming and scripting to assist various studies, including preparing reports related to monitoring the Great Lakes water balance, including meteorological and hydrologic data.
Using computer programming assist in the development of regulation plans
designed to keep lake levels and outflows within specified limits under given
supply conditions.
Prepare hydrologic and mathematical
problems for electronic digital computer application by formulating the
problem, preparing procedural steps for solution of the problem, drawing flow
diagram of processes in preparation for programming, and writing the program in
computer language.
Assemble basic data, and when applicable, appropriate
relationships.
Process
problems suitable for electronic computer application by preparing, modifying or
obtaining the necessary computer programs and assembling the required input
data in proper format.
Review results, making the
necessary adjustments in the program or input
data
to obtain usable results.
Derive water level gage relationships for
detecting changes in river regimen periods of sparse data using latest
mathematical concepts and computer programming techniques

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing analyses using output from global climate and regional climate models; providing predictions of climate impacts on basin hydrology; and experience with computer modeling relating to climatology, meteorology, or hydrology. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
