    This is the position of Information Technology Specialist (Development and Systems Operations) in the NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) Project, High Energy Astrophysics Division of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. The ADS is building a highly scalable and feature-rich platform using a modern development stack: a custom build of the open-source search engine Solr, a highly responsive UI engineered on top of backbone.js, a scalable asynchronous data ingestion pipeline with RabbitMQ and PostgreSQL, and cloud-based hosting of its services with Amazon Web Services. The primary programming languages are Python, Java, and JavaScript.

    The employee is a highly-motivated system developer experienced in architecting and administering key components of software infrastructure, including its search engine, user database, and cloud-based microservices. The developer is part of a small, agile team of talented, like-minded individuals who are solving difficult problems as a team.

    1. Manage ADS’s cloud-based computing infrastructure and system operations, ensuring stability and scalability of the ADS services
    2. Work with team members to ensure software modules are production-ready, manage their deployment
    3. Collect metrics about system operations and service usage to support system monitoring, usage tracking and reporting
    4. Function as part of a team in the design and development of new capabilities and the maintenance of existing functionality
    5. Perform other duties as may be required
