This position functions in Pharmacy
Service within the Miami VA Healthcare Systems. The incumbent is a highly
specialized technician, who will perform a variety of complex :technical skills
and functions, which requires comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and
pharmacy practices. Most duties will be performed in the Outpatient Pharmacy,
as required and assigned, the incumbent is expected to accomplish all duties
related to stocking, delivering, inventory, inspections, assembling ward
orders, prescription set ups, controlled substances distribution, IV and some
hazardous drug compounding, and unit-dose. drug packaging and drug
distribution. The incumbent performing at this level is considered a fully
performing technician and will execute their duties with general supervision.
Correctly interprets physician orders, selects and measures appropriate
ingredients, mixes ingredients in a safe and effective manner, inspects the
final product for accuracy, suitability and elegance, labels the product,
maintains records of the manufacturing process and supplies the product for
delivery. Inventories and replenishes emergency trays without a second review.
Appropriately restocks controlled substances items in automated secured
cabinets (i.e. Pyxis) throughout medical center. Uses standard protocols to
determine an accurate expiration date for each batch prepared. Accurately fills
prescription items for wards using Automatic Replenishment reports by selecting
correct drug strength and dosage form. Edits and corrects prescription label
information as necessary. Records expiration dates in the automatic
prescription dispensing system upon receipt. The technician will be assigned
