This is an open-continuous announcement intended to recruit applicants to establish a standing inventory.  As vacancies occur a list of qualified applicants will be referred to the selecting official.  The 25th of every month is the cut-off date for this announcement; this will be used to begin applicant consideration and applicants received after the cut-off date may be considered if needed.

NOTE:  If the 25th falls on a Sunday, Saturday, or Holiday the cut-off will be the following Monday.

This is a WG-08 trainee position under the Target Promotion Program (TPP) with the full performance level of WG-10.  The incumbent will receive formal, informal, and/or on-the-job training in the specialty area.  Assignments at this level are designated to provide knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform at the grade level (WG-10).  Noncompetitive promotion will be based on employee's demonstration of proficiency in job task, completion of required training, and supervisory recommendation for employee's promotion.

Help

Major Duties:

  • Plans and lays out work following clear-cut work orders and instructions from the supervisor or higher grade worker.
  • Manufactures and installs, or repairs aircraft items.
  • Uses and Maintains tools.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintains time and attendance procedures in accordance with the Depot Maintenance Accounting and Production System (DMAPS) guidelines.  Performs Production Acceptance Certification (PAC) program duties.
  • Works to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services.

  • The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle.  An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
  • May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous materials.
  • May be required to work shifts or uncommon tours of duty.  Subject to call back to meet emergency situations.
  • May be required to obtain and appropriate clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas.
  • Physical exertion is moderate and includes prolonged standing; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding; working cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting and bending while using hand and power tools.
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.  Items weighting in excess of 50 pounds will be lifted and/or carried with the assistance of another employee or a mechanical device.  May be required to climb higher than 12 feet.
  • Work involves work both inside and outside, subject to noise and vibration, to a variety of weather conditions, subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns.

EXPERIENCE: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C; for additional information click here.  Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element(s) listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying.  Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Job Elements for this position are:

  • Ability to do the work or the position without more than normal supervision (Screen Out Element)
  • Knowledge of Equipment Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging). Job Element 2-F)

  • Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation). (Job Element 80-B)
  • Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work (Job Element 81-C)
  • Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly, Reassembly etc.) (Job Element 86-E)

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.  You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE:  Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
