Duties

Help

As the Deputy Director, you are responsible for typical work assignments that include:   

  • Assists and shares fully in the planning and directing of the programs and activities of the Library which contains the papers of President Gerald R. Ford and Betty Ford
  • With the Library Director, maintains close working relations with the Gerald R. Ford Foundation, its Board members and other support organizations to secure their advice, counsel, and support in developing of annual Library budgets, facilities, and services of the library and museum.
  • Plans and oversees special activities sponsored by the library, including professional conferences and symposia involving visiting scholars and prominent public officials and student education programs designed to create awareness of history and public issues.
  • Oversees the development, justification, and presentation of LP-GRF budgets and in determining need for additional financial and personnel resources.
  • Oversees activities with respect to the physical care, maintenance, and security of the buildings, grounds, and library and museum's contents, including guarding against loss, theft, and damage to or deterioration of the collections
  • Supervises designated Library employees. Appraises performance, counsels, reviews, and approves leave requests, and performs basic supervisory tasks for all assigned employee, plans, distributes and directs manpower resources in order to accomplish the varied operational production and mission objectives of the LP-GRF program.

Time-in-Grade:   Time-in-grade requirements apply.   You must have one year of Federal service at the GS-14 level to be eligible for the GS-13.


Qualifications

GS-14 - Candidates must have had one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. 

Examples of specialized experience for this grade level include:experience in the leadership and management of a major museum, library or similar cultural institution, with specific responsibility for coordination and oversight of archival research and collections and/or museum artifact and exhibit functions; experience in planning and implementing educational outreach, public programs, civic events, and/or academic symposia;  and experience working with and engaging diverse staff based at different locations.

Probationary Period:  You will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

This is a supervisory position. First-time supervisors serve a one-year probationary period.
