The incumbent is a member of the Alaska Region Systems Operations Division (SOD), reporting directly to the SOD Chief. The incumbent serves as the Alaska Region’s expert on all aspects of information technology (IT) security. This position is responsible for the protection and security of the Alaska Region’s IT systems. The incumbent ensures IT systems within the Alaska Region are compliant with the Federal Information Security Management Act. The incumbent formulates, determines, and influences policy and procedures for IT security at the Regional and National levels. Serves as senior advisor to the Alaska Region senior management on all IT security matters. Provides advice and guidance to field managers, National Weather Service (NWS) Chief Information Officer, and other NWS Regions on a wide range of IT issues. The incumbent formulates, populates and executes certification and accreditation requirements, configuration management plans, and contingency plans, including system security plans and associated documentation for the entire region. The incumbent formulates and executes quality control procedures to maintain the integrity of the Alaska Region’s local and wide area networks. The incumbent leads and coordinates Regional scanning activities and reports. Serves as Regional focal point between system administrators and NCIRT regarding incident mitigation. Takes immediate action to terminate any and all cyberattacks on the Alaska Region IT systems. Provides IT Project Management oversight to include scheduling, resourcing, budgeting, coordinating, resource allocation and tasking of assigned projects. Conducts Quality Assurance (QA) assessments for operation of information technology services and programs.
