This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school.
What are the Eligibility Requirements?
In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:
The position is year round and the anticipated start date is as soon as possible. Applicants must be living in and attending school (either online or in person) in the local commuting area.
This position may be extended at the Park's discretion as long as the incumbent continues to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program.
This position does not confer noncompetitive conversion eligibility to a permanent position.
The work schedule will be full-time or part-time depending on class schedule and the needs of the park.

Work Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
REQUIREMENTS:
Be currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution AND
Have successfully completed 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree that included at least 12 semester hours with courses in subjects such as American history, science, education, parks and recreation, communications and/or public speaking.Have OR
Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal government (I understand that specialized experience is experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Examples of specialized experience could include, but are not limited to Park Guide or Tour Leader; Naturalist; Environmental Educator or Teacher; or other similar work). OR
Have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience (only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience). For example, I have 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirements for this position and grade level) combined with two years of education as outlined above (50% of the education required to qualify), which included related courses such as American history, science, education, parks and recreation, communications and/or public speaking (50% of the directly related coursework required).
