As an intern, you will be assigned to a senior specialist or group of specialists. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation. Tasks will vary depending on the senior specialist's current workload, but may include the following: Work as a team member engaged in special studies as assigned. The incumbent is required to accurately identify fish and wildlife using a systematic key, and to identify fish and wildlife as required to complete the surveys.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship at the time of your conversion to permanent employment.
Two year trial/probationary period may be required.

This position is Career Program 16.
In accordance with the Pathways Intern Program Requirements, the selectee must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement that states the internship period, work schedule, position information, and program requirements.
This position requires that you complete 640 working hours under the Intern program in order to be able to be converted into the competitive service. (Note: at a minimum working Part-Time 16 hours per pay period you would be required to work 40 pay periods or about one year and seven months to gain 640 hours.)
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this internship is a College Sophomore or Junior with a 3.0 GPA and experience in
natural resource management, biology, or fisheries and wildlife
management. Experience may be either
hands on or in a classroom setting.
Experience in trailering and operating boats on reservoirs and rivers is
desirable. Strong candidates will meet the educational requirements and have experience such as preparing presentation materials such as Powerpoint slides, writing reports, and public speaking. Qualified candidates will meet the educational requirements as advertised regardless of experience level. Candidates must be available for overnight travel and be able to work in harsh and adverse conditions during long workdays to complete required sampling duties.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
Intern's Responsibilities:
Provide proof of enrollment as necessary
Notify the agency of any change in your enrollment status and/or work schedule
Maintain at least a half-time course load as defined by the educational institution
Remain in good academic standing
Maintain a GPA of 2.0 and above
Adhere to an established work schedule
Adhere to the Intern Program requirements

This internship prepares students for conversion to the Biology occupation. This occupation has specific educational requirements for entry, and applicants for the intern program must show evidence their planned academic program will meet those requirements. Students who graduate without meeting those requirements will not be converted to the target position, and will be separated from federal service.
