As a Student Trainee (Information Technology Specialist) GS-5, the incumbent will receive informal and on the job training which are intended to enhance individual technical competencies. Assignments may involve applying available technologies and basic management principles to adapt computer methods to a variety of subject matter situations in a highly technical communications environment. The purpose of this trainee position is to perform analytical work related to integrated systems, computer programs, and/or equipment. As an entry-level trainee, the incumbent will assist senior staff members in the collection and analysis of data, performing a variety of duties with an increasing degree of difficulty and responsibility. Participates in a variety of projects utilizing basic computer skills to provide assistance in evaluating requirements and procedures, assisting with the preparation of technical and administrative reports, and interfacing with senior program officials.
As a Student Trainee (Information Technology Specialist) GS-7, the incumbent will perform a variety of routine and recurring assignments, technical tasks such as solving minor problems, and analysis in support of higher level Information Technology (IT) Specialists. The work product affects the accuracy, reliability, or acceptability of further analytical processes.<

As a Student Trainee (Information Technology Specialist) GS-9, the incumbent plans and carries out routine work independently and participates on more complex studies and projects to develop expertise. The employee makes minor adaptations to procedures and accepted practices, and handles unexpected conditions arising in the normal course of the work. The work involves the execution of specific rules, regulations, or procedures and typically comprises a complete segment of an assignment or projected of broader scope.

Qualifications
You must meet all eligibility requirements for the OIG Internship Program and all qualifications requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Internship Eligibility Requirements:
Individuals accepted for enrollment (*must provide an acceptance letter from the academic institution on letterhead) or students enrolled (you must provide academic transcripts) in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Note: You must provide an acceptance letter from the academic institution on letterhead if you have been accepted for enrollment for Summer 2017 or Fall 2017 and you if you are currently enrolled you must submit your academic transcripts. Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for the GS-05 grade level, the applicant must have completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or equivalent degree; or a Bachelor's degree; OR applicants may qualify using specialized experience if they have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service or obtained in the public sector. Specialized experience includes basic knowledge in standard computer hardware and software programs and preparing written reports; OR the applicant may qualify based on a combination of education and experience for the GS-05 grade level if the applicant exceeds 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. To qualify for the GS-07 grade level, the
applicant must have 1 year of graduate level education or superior
academic achievement; OR 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-05
grade level or equivalent level; OR applicants may qualify based on a combination of
the experience and education requirements described above.
*One year of full-time academic study
is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a
college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction
per week for approximately 36 weeks. Specialized experience includes knowledge in standard computer
hardware and software programs; knowledge in computer security, including
layers of protection, anti-virus software, logins, passwords and user
rights and preparing written reports.
Note: Superior Academic Achievement
(SAA), may be substituted to meet the specialized experience
requirement. Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) allows applicants to
apply for certain positions at the GL-7 level if they have a Bachelors
degree in a qualifying field of study and they meet one of the following
requirements: class standing (upper 1/3 graduating class), G.P.A. is
3.0 or higher, or if applicant was a member in a National Scholastic
Honor Society.
To qualify for the GS-09 grade level, the
applicant must have 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the
GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, which has equipped the
applicant with the competencies required to perform successfully the
duties of the position; OR applicants may substitute the following
education for the specialized experience requirement; if the applicant
has a master's or equivalent graduate level degree, OR two full years of
progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree,
or a LL.B or J.D.; OR applicants may qualify based on a combination of
the experience and education requirements described above. Specialized experience includes knowledge and skill in standard computer hardware and software programs; knowledge and skill in computer security, including layers of protection, anti-virus software, logins, passwords and user rights and preparing written reports.
