Assess plans and provide comprehensive and therapeutic medical care to individual geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric and infant patients and their families.
Order and/or perform screening and diagnostic tests and procedures (lab studies, x-rays, electrocardiograms, audiograms, pulmonary functions tests, etc.)
Make diagnosis and decisions concerning medical and nursing care of patients, formulate and implement plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, consultation with other health care providers, and referrals.
Provide emergency treatment and initiate emergency life saving measures as appropriate, i.e. cardiac arrest, shock, hemorrhage or overdose/poisonings, seizures, and emergency obstetric delivery.
Assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patient visits to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data to provide comprehensive medical care.
Teach and counsel patients and family on disease prevention and health maintenance techniques.
Maintain and improve professional knowledge and skill, maintain current clinical competence and attend all mandatory training.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assessing, diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses, managing chronic health problems, primary care for trauma cases including suturing, conducting physical examinations, emergency care, providing counseling and health instructions to patients and families, and ability to document care in patient record. Experience identifying medical problems and determining appropriate action to treat the problem, including referral to a physician; performing specified diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures; providing a wide range of emergency services in the absence of the physicians, including primary care of trauma and life-saving procedures. GS-07 (or equivalent): Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at this grade level:
Completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program (certificate of completion, associate degree, or bachelor's degree); or
Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related health care or health related science and graduation from an accredited physician assistant educational program.
GS-09 (or equivalent): Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at this grade level:
A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-07 grade level and graduation from an accredited physician assistant educational program as described above;
Completion of the Mater of Physician Assistant Studies; or
Completion of a master's degree in a related health care or health related science and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Examples of related master's degree programs include, but not limited, to Master of Medical Sciences, Master of Public Health, Master of Biomedical Sciences, or other related major field of study.
GS-11 (or equivalent): Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements qualify for positions at this grade level:
A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-09 grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program as described above; or
PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related health field and completion of an accredited physician assistant educaitonal program. Examples of related doctoral degree programs include, but are not limited to, public health; allied health field; public health education; or other related health science.
GS-12 and above (or equivalent): A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
