About the Position:
This announcement will be used to fill current and future vacancies within the Hydraulics and Hydrology Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Construction Division (E&C). These positions are with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, Engineering and Construction Division (E&C). The St. Paul District E&C designs water resource projects to benefit the people of Minnesota, western Wisconsin, northeastern North Dakota, portions of South Dakota and Iowa, and the nation. These projects support inland navigation, flood risk management, and environmental restoration. E&C also provides emergency response to disasters.
Saint Paul is the capital of Minnesota and the seat of Ramsey County. Along with Minneapolis, it occupies the center of the fifteen-county Twin Cities metropolitan statistical area. The city developed in the late nineteenth century through the efforts of railroad baron James Hill and religious leader Archbishop John Ireland. As a Hydraulic Engineer you will plan and make field reconnaissance trips to obtain first-hand information on conditions influencing type and extent of hydrologic and hydraulic investigation necessary for flood control projects, flood plain information reports, and flood plain technical service studies. Your duties will include: developing hydrologic studies used in analyzing or designing flood control reservoirs and local flood control protection work; conducting hydraulic design, channel, bank stabilization and erosion studies for complex levee and channel projects; undertaking hydrologic and hydraulic studies for complex environmental enhancement projects; conducting hydrologic and hydraulic studies for complex navigation projects and structures to include wing dams, submerged weirs, channel closures, and lock and dam features. Part of your duties will include participating in conferences with other employees in the St. Paul District, the Mississippi Valley Division, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to discuss and establish technical hydraulic requirements and objectives for projects and individual features.

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: conducting hydrologic and/or hydrologic analysis and design for flood risk management (levees, diversions, dams, spillways, outlet works, and floodwalls), environmental restoration/enhancement, and/or navigation (embankment protection, river training structures, dredging) projects and studies as part of a project team; knowledge of and application experience with hydrologic and hydraulic engineering mathematical models.
