This position is located within the Office of Disease Prevention (ODP), Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI), Office of the Director (OD), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The ODP holds a unique position at the NIH, serving as the lead program office focused on assessing, facilitating, and stimulating research in disease prevention and health promotion, and disseminating the results of this research to improve public health. ODP is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented professional to assist with the implementation of its Tobacco Regulatory Science Program (TRSP). TRSP is an interagency partnership between NIH and the FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) to foster tobacco regulatory research. With the passage of the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (TCA), the FDA acquired the authority to regulate the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products in order to protect public health.

This Health Scientist Administrator will use their expertise to assist with the coordination of collaborative tobacco regulatory science funding opportunities, projects, and initiatives. They will develop research, training, and implementation initiatives related to disease prevention, tobacco, and public health. In this role they will also and disseminate information and guidance on findings from tobacco regulatory science, disease prevention, and health promotion research. The ideal candidate should have expertise in tobacco prevention and control. The incumbent will apply their knowledge of tobacco and prevention science to promote collaborative research across NIH, HHS, and the broader extramural community. A major component of the position involves working with NIH extramural staff and FDA CTP staff to coordinate grant and training activities related to the NIH/FDA partnership and tobacco regulatory science.

On behalf of the NIH, the incumbent serves as a contact in interactions, collaborations, and initiatives both inside and outside the federal government. They will represent NIH as an active participant on interagency and inter-departmental groups focusing on disease prevention, tobacco regulatory science, and related public health issues.
