Help
  • You will perform laboratory operations with minimal oversight aimed at characterization, analysis, modeling and simulation of energetic materials and their constituents.
  • You will perform independent research and development and report the results in peer-reviewed forums.
  • You will develop original proposals, cost estimates and statements-of-work to secure external and internal funding for work to be executed.
  • You will execute programs involving multiple personnel in different technical departments and manage necessary equipment and resources.
  • You will participate in the safety culture and safety programs ongoing and developed at the duty station.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

ND-1320-04: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11) level, as a professional Scientist assessing or executing technical and quality requirements in the manufacturing of energetic systems or components for delivery or technological advancement of an ordnance program.

ND-1320-03: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the ND-02 (GS-05/08) level, as a professional Scientist analyzing technical and quality requirements in the manufacturing of energetic systems or components for delivery or technological advancement of an ordnance program.

Substitution of education may apply to the ND-03 level only, and is as follows:

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

This position has a minimum education requirement and is as follows:

Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
