Help

The Pathways Program is work experience that provides an opportunity for students to pursue work that is relevant and beneficial to their academic studies. Assignments are designed to assist employees in developing a basic understanding of specialized practices and procedures and a familiarity with work operations. You will provide assistance to higher level personnel by performing routine and repetitive tasks. The program is an excellent opportunity for students to get an interesting, real-world experience while contributing to the defense of our nation.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your application must provide sufficient documentation showing you possess the required educational level needed to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.

To Qualify for the NG-01 Level: you must be currently enrolled in a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED) program, or post-high school educational program OR have successfully completed a high school or GED diploma OR have successfully completed 1 full academic year of post-high school study OR successfully completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.

To Qualify for the NG-02 level: you must have successfully completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree or completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education.

To remain eligible for this internship, you MUST continue to be enrolled in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis for the duration of the appointment.

Education

QUALIFYING EDUCATION:

The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization in or directly related to the field in which the student trainees will receive training on the job. The degree of specialization in this field must satisfy on graduation the specific educational requirements in the qualification standard for the corresponding two-grade interval positions.

NG-02: You must have successfully completed 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree or completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education.

The Pathways appointment has promotion potential NG-02. If selected below the full performance level, incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and a current student enrolled in:
1) A high school or home-school curriculum approved by a State or local governing body;
2) An accredited college (including technical, vocational trade schools, two or four year colleges/universities);
3) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school, etc.); or
4) A Certificate Program in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study, that is part of an accredited, college-level, technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum. Short-term training and/or certificate programs (i.e., several two-week programs completed or class sessions attended over a period of two years) that are not required for the position or which lack sufficient academic rigor, are not considered an acceptable academic course of study.
