You will be responsible for independently conducting laboratory and computer based research in support of the Navy's Chemical Biological Radiation (CBR) Defense mission.
You will be responsible for adhering to all Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Navy (DoN), and internal policies for the safe and rigorous conduct of said research.
You will conduct laboratory experiments in chemistry and biology, laboratory and field testing in chemistry and biology, and technical design and invention of CBRD technologies.
You will perform duties in relation to: project management, data interpretation, report authorship, experimental design, and computer based modeling and simulation.
You will be responsible for classified and unclassified literature reviews and authoring research reports and briefings on the materials found therein.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications
FOR ND-04: In addition to the basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalent) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist, applying engineering/scientific theories, concepts, and practices to conduct and analyze laboratory or computer based research (e.g. modeling and simulation) related to chemical/biochemical areas to meet mission requirements for development of Chemical, Biological, and Radiation (CBR) Defense system projects.
FOR ND-03:In addition to the basic education requirements, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band ND-02 (GS-05/08 equivalent) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist, applying engineering/scientific theories, concepts, and practices to conduct laboratory or computer based research (e.g. modeling and simulation) related to chemical/biochemical areas supporting Chemical, Biological, and Radiation (CBR) Defense systems.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: FOR 0893:Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
