Summary

You will serve as an Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Specialist in the Ordnance Assurance & Safety Office of NAVSURFWARCEN IH DIV.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.
The NT-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-11 and GS-12.
The NT-3 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-9 and GS-10.

The salary for the position is as follows:
NT-03: $54,440 - $86,085
NT-04: $66,216 - $113,362

Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for Occupational Safety and Health programs.
  • You will conduct surveys, periodic inspections and special studies of industrial operations, trade shop workplaces, ordnance explosives production facilities, and operations where toxic and flammable liquids, gases and chemical materials.
  • You will evaluate personal protective equipment to determine compliance with regulations.
  • You will evaluate workplaces to determine environmental health risks, exposure levels and make technical recommendations of findings.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate:
For the NT-04 Position: at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-3
(GS-9/10 equivalent)
grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assessing safety and occupational health program regulations to ensure workplace safety.

For the NT-03 Position:
at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-02 (GS-7/8 Equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Analyzing or evaluating industrial safety practices through the use of safety and occupational health surveys.

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

For the NT-04:

Completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
~OR~
LL.M., if related (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

For the NT-03:
Completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

OR

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

OR

LL.B. or J.D., if related (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

All undergraduate and graduate education for substitution of experience must meet the following standards:
Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
