Summary

You will serve as a TECHNICIAN in the Test and Evaluation Division - Non-Destruction Evaluation Branch of NAVSURFWARCEN IHEODTECHDIV.

This position is within the Warfare Demonstration Project. The NT-05 pay band encompasses the GS-13/14 pay grades. This position is not high-grade, therefor the salary is limited to the GS-13 step 10 grade level.

Duties

Help
  • You will provide Level III radiographic over-sight and function as a Subject Matter Expert for Nondestructive Testing to the command as needed
  • You will provide over-sight to radiographic operations with little to no technical supervision, unless from more senior Level III certified personnel.
  • You will ensure all requirements of the NDT Quality requirements are met.
  • You will develop procedures and technical documents
  • You will provide formal class room training as well as informal mentoring to more junior personnel, to include administering exams
  • You will independently perform product inspection and acceptance
  • You will work with machines producing non-ionizing radiation (X-rays)

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a Certification from the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing to NAS-410 as a Level III Radiographer
  • Work is both indoors and outdoors and includes exposure to outdoor environmental conditions to both extremes (heat and cold).
  • Work requires some stooping, climbing, walking, and lifting. Some sedentary work.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band (NT-04 OR GS-11/12) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector leading technical or engineering support services to perform radiographic examinations (e.g. x-rays) on energetic or ordnance items

Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
