Help
  • You will advise and provide technical guidance to the Geo Readiness Center (GRC) to support programs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) products.
  • You will maintain a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database in support of region customers.
  • You will develop program policy and guidance procedures to govern initiatives and policies for assigned programs.
  • You will coordinate project activities in the area of Geographical Information System (GIS ) technology to support work efforts.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineering Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing assistance in the development, improvement, implementation, coordination, and demonstration of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software and databases in establishing plans, policies, and procedures; 2) Conducting geospatial analyses related to the human, social, cultural, economic, ecological, and physical environment; 3) Identifying and documenting geospatial data features that need to be migrated to Spacial Data Standards for Facilities Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE); 4) Coordinating with or leading GIS team personnel who are experts in the fields of geography, GIS, cartography, and information management to support projects.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.

OR

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional information

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

A forty-hour work week is typical of this position.

This position is eligible for part time, full time or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.

This position is being recruited at the full performance level.

Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary in an office setting and physical effort is required one or two weeks a month when field work is accomplished which consists of walking, bending, and climbing during outside field work for site visits, GPS data collection and performing UAV projects. Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs for UAV projects and data collection. Driving is also required to visit various sites.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed either in a typical office setting or outside field work. All field work requires observance of all safety precautions. Some field work may require protective clothing. All field work typically consists of field trips for one or two weeks a month. Routine overnight travel to US Navy sites and detachments is required.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
