Duties

Help
  • You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain explosive and chemical processing equipment, instrumentation, and mechanical controls.
  • You will determine requirements from blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals and specifications.
  • You will set up, modify, and adjust electrical/electronic and mechanical controls for conventional and specialized machinery.
  • You will use various trade skills--electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, steam/pipe fitting, and hydraulic--to repair presses, mixers, vacuum systems, ovens, cutters systems, etc used to manufacture and process propellants and chemicals.
  • You will change bearings, wheels, belts and shafts as well as adjusting tight clearances and belt/chain drivers.

  • Selectees will be subject to selection for shift work, including Saturday and Sunday.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Selectees for this position serve as an Instrument Worker (WG-08) or Instrument Mechanic (WG-09/10/11) in the Industrial Support Division, Energetics Manufacturing Department of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division.

Salary Ranges:
WG-08: $26.27 - $30.53
WG-09: $27.67 - $32.35
WG-10: $29.23 - $34.15
WG-11: $30.73 - $35.91

As most of the work will be performed in a production area, selectees will be exposed to the hazards of propellant and explosive manufacturing processes including possible fire and explosion. Will be exposed to moving machinery, sharp edges, flying particles, and the general hazards of the trade.

Normally will work indoors with normal conditions of light and temperature. occasionally may be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in some areas of extreme heat, noise, dirt, poor illumination, dampness, or unpleasant odors.
