Duties

Help

Performs one or a combination of the following manual labor tasks: Loads, unloads, or relocates heavy or bulky items from boxcars, trucks, and other conveyances; carries and assembles scaffolding. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact; does grading and sloping, occasionally and for short periods of time, breaks up pavement with jackhammer; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. Uses heavy (not domestic type) power mowers; adjusts blades, and cleans and oils mowers; cuts trees, using ax or chain saw.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:

Experience which demonstrated the ability to operate, control and clean heavy powered equipment. Must be able to follow oral and/or written instructions. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Work that does not require the skills and knowledge in operating heavy equipment, continually involves extreme physical effort; such as, constantly lifting or carrying objects weighing 80 to 100 pounds or more. Must be able to satisfactorily complete pre-employment physical to include a hearing test.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
