Duties

Help
  • Serves as Chief, Public Affairs Office for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's Los Angeles District in order to proactively deliver the Commander's message and works as an integral member of the South Pacific Division and USACE public affairs team.
  • Focuses on external corporate communications, is responsible for planning, organizing, synchronizing, directing and controlling all public affairs activities and programs.
  • Promotes understanding of the agency, region and district's mission, programs and activities.
  • Manages news media relations in major news media markets on a district, regional and national level.
  • Supervises the coordination and preparation of speeches, presentations, public briefings and other written, electronic and oral statements for the Commander and key district employees to be given to general and targeted audiences.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes writing informational materials such as news releases, fact sheets, brochures, and speeches; preparing and conducting audio-visual presentations; developing and maintaining effective communications with print and broadcast media representatives; developing web and strategic e-communication products; analyzing and evaluating impact and effectiveness of program communication plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
