Summary

The Health Technician - Escort position is organizationally assigned to Nursing Service. The individual performs a wide range of supportive and direct care duties at the ward level. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of support to patient care through transporting of patients to diagnostic examinations.

Duties

Help

Duties include:
-Transport patients from one unit to other areas of the hospital- with and without assistance.
-May be assigned as a 1:1 sitter as needed.
-Take patients vital signs, empties bedpans, urinals, catheter bags and reports them to the nurse and documents on I&O sheet.
-Transport specimens, requisitions, equipment and other necessary items within the medical center.
-Assist with ADLs such as feeding, bathing, dressing, ambulation, toileting, and may independently make an unoccupied bed.
-Assist with patient movement using the Safe Patient Handling lift equipment.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-time, AM and PM Shifts, 2nd Shift, may require Weekends and Holidays; 3:30 PM to Midnight. Work schedule will be discussed at interview.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/07/2020.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Experience GS-3: Incumbent must have at least six months general experience (any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work or experience that provided familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the position). A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

--OR--

Education GS-3: Have you successfully completed one-year above high school with courses that included study in medical, health, or related fields? One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a technical school. At the time of application, you must submit a copy of your transcript (unofficial or official) or a course listing that identifies for each course completed: the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade, and grade-point average received. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Experience and Education Combination GS-3: Have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. This education must include courses in medical, health or related field. At the time of application, you must submit a copy of your transcript (unofficial or official) or a course listing that identifies for each course completed: the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade, and grade-point average received. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking around the unit and the Medical Center. Frequently, this will involve the pushing of equipment. Working in a patient care environment requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, and stooping, stretching, and similar activities.

Working Conditions: Duties will be performed in an environment which involves everyday risks and discomforts requiring normal safety precautions. This will involve exposure to odors and contagions normally found in a hospital environment.
