Summary

This position is responsible for evaluating the development and implementation of programs and tasks of several staff. Serve as the Center expert in Environmental Health Scientist and Associated Clearance Procedures; plays an important lead role in these areas with other federal agencies and partner organizations and advises the Office, Center and CDC leadership in these areas.

Duties

Help
  • Supervises senior scientific and programmatic staff that are responsible for scientific, policy and ethical validity and accuracy of all products and materials emanating from NCEH/ATSDR, including peer-reviewed publications and MMWR articles.
  • Provide oversight of the design, initiation, coordination, and conduct of complex epidemiologic investigations and research based on state-of-the art scientific practices.
  • Provide mentoring, scientific oversight, coaching and supervision and direct technical input into staff?s investigations, studies and other scientific and programmatic activities, including data collection and analysis.
  • Establish and maintain relationships among a variety of national and international public health, medical, and environmental organizations, other government agencies, academic institutions, and state and local health departments.
  • Determine the overall policies and procedures to be followed to achieve the clearance mission of NCEH and ATSDR, and direct the implementation of those procedures.
  • Represent the Office of Science, NCEH/ATSDR, and CDC in meetings with federal, national and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and foreign governments.
  • Review and edit manuscripts for professional publications for technical content and policy considerations.
  • Exercise final authority for the full range of personnel actions and organization design proposals recommended by subordinate supervisors.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in providing leadership and consultation in the development of applied scientific research, analysis and reporting of critical findings related to Environmental Health Scientist and Associated Clearance Procedures (EHSACP).
