  • Plans and coordinates a full range of food preparation activities involving quantity food production of items cooked simultaneously with varied cooking methods, timing requirements, multiple ingredients, and numerous interrelated steps.
  • Operates kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources.
  • Cleans and uses a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items.
  • Cooks at this performance level apply skill in the operation, breakdown, and cleaning of food service equipment for large quantity food production.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Upon tentative selection, selectee will be requested to complete, sign, and submit the Addendum to OF-306, Child Care & Indian Child Care Worker Position form. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Hours of duty are on a rotating schedule that include holiday and weekend shifts; On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

Security Clearance: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprinting, as part of the background investigation process, may be delayed due to COVID-19. All other background investigation procedures will apply. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): To qualify for this position you must meet both of the screen-out elements listed below:

Ability to do the Work Without More than Normal Supervision: Experience and/or training to perform most duties of a Cook, Examples Include: Quantity cooking; prepare a variety of menu items including regular and special diet entrees and dessert items such as roast, broil, bake, fry, boil, steam and stew meats, fish, and poultry; prepare soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings without the use of packaged mixes; adjusting standardized recipes for the number of servings required in quantity cooking; maintain the proper temperature for all foods during holding, transport, reheating, and serving to assure quality control and food safety. quantity cooking, on own initiative with intermittent supervision.

Technical Practices: knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption.

These screen-out elements are a critical self-assessment of the applicant's experience and are essential for satisfactory job performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, WG-7404-5:

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
