Select and mark timber for cutting, consistent with scientific principles dictated by site, age, density, quality, species, size, vigor, disease, and insect damage for individual stands.
Direct others on the fire crew and participates in wildland fire management projects including prescribed burning, wildfire suppression, and standby fire tower duty on high fire danger days.
Prepare maps, detailed drawings, and narratives statements for use in Fort Stewart Forest Management Plan and other required maps or reports involving, timber sales, forest inventory, etc.
Utilize ARC-GIS (Geographic Information System ) to develop and print out maps needed for timber cruising.
Use a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) recorder to locate the area.

This position may require shift work.
Incumbent is required to wear prescribed protective uniforms and to use protective equipment.
Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
Incumbent is subject to recall 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in case of emergency.
This position requires incumbent to be available after hours, weekends, or holidays, seasonally, depending on weather conditions, and current or projected workload requirements.
This position requires successful completion of a pre-employment and annual physical.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications GS-06:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting timber cruises, selecting and marking timber for cutting, and measuring and/or estimating quantity of timber. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Master of Forestry, Master of Forest Resources, Master of Environmental Science, Master of Natural Resources, Master of Wildlife Management, or related fields.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Minimum Qualifications GS-07:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes participating in fire management projects such as prescribed burning, wildlife suppression, fire tower operations, and/ or fire standby; investigating the cause of wildfires; and utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) software to analyze and carry out forestry practices such as developing and printing out maps. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Master of Forestry, Master of Forest Resources, Master of Environmental Science, Master of Natural Resources, Master of Wildlife Management, or related fields.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
