Duties

Help
  • diagnostic and therapeutic medical/dental equipment and support systems used in various clinics and to include by not limited to: emergency services, veterinary clinic, Air Evacuation and Pararescue Jumper units, and War Reserve Material (WRM).
  • Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, maintains, tests, calibrates, adjusts, overhauls, and repairs a wide variety of medical, laboratory, and dental equipment items with complex electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Inspects biomedical equipment systems to determine operational status and compliance with technical standards and specifications.
  • Performs acceptances/initial inspections on new equipment.
  • Utilization of facility tools and test equipment.

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver?s license is required for the position. Must possess or be able to acquire a Government Motor Vehicle Operator?s License.
  • Must acquire and maintain certification in Basic Life Support.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours. In the event of war-related emergency, natural disaster, or other similar contingency, the incumbent may be required to perform additional duties in support of the Air Force Mission.
  • The incumbent may also be required to participate in readiness exercises.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

Qualifications

This is a TERM position NTE 4YRS

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to the work of a MEDICAL EQUIPMENT REPAIRER without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort: Frequent lifting of 10-40 lbs. and occasional heavy lifting. Considerable standing, stooping, bending, and frequently working in cramped and awkward positions for prolonged periods. Some climbing and occasional working from ladders may be required. Requires close hand-eye coordination and normal color perception.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors but with occasional outdoor tasks. They are exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, broken bones, and serious burns caused by electrical shock. Repairers work in contaminated and contagious disease areas, and with radiation and contaminated equipment. Subject to potential of electrical shock from handling high voltage/high frequency circuitry. Subject to incidental occupational levels to exposure to: ionizing radiation; mechanical hazards, toxic chemicals, gasses, and fumes; pressurized steam; loud noise; and hot pipes/metal objects. May occasionally work from a 6-foot ladder.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge and has ability to apply electrical, electronic, optical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and physiological principles to diagnose and locate system malfunctions. Knowledge of physiology and anatomy to the degree necessary to understand clinical descriptions of equipment malfunctions and their ramifications.
2. Knowledge and has ability to use test equipment, technical data, engineering drawings, schematics and reference materials for troubleshooting and repair of medical equipment. An understanding of and ability to read and understand electronic schematics and facility blueprints and plumbing/wiring diagrams, as well as manufacturer's operating and service manuals.
3. Ability to envision complex medical equipment from a "systems" viewpoint in order to correctly localize malfunctions.
4. Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and testing and safe shop practices; in accordance with governing policies, procedures, and/or regulations.
5. Ability to perform tasks relating to collecting and recording historical maintenance data. Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, telephone systems and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office support.
6. Skill in interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
